Vote By Mail

Eligible electors in Electoral Area B (Gabriola, Mudge, DeCourcy) who meet one or more of the following criteria are permitted to register to vote by mail:

  1. Persons who have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity;
  2. Persons who expect to be absent from the area  on general voting day (Sat. Oct. 20) and at the times of all advance voting opportunities (Wednesday Oct. 10 and 17);
  3. Persons who reside in the following areas of the Regional District of Nanaimo that are remote from voting places at which they are entitled to vote: 1. DeCourcy Island; 2. Mudge Island.

Complete the mail ballot application form, and submit it to the RDN Administration office as early as possible in advance of general voting day, October 20, 2018 (the deadline for mailed ballots).

The form may be submitted online via email, regular mail, in person, or via fax (if faxing please call or email to confirm). The application may also be requested or picked up using the same options:

You do need not to own property to vote. You must be over 18, a Canadian citizen, a resident or property owner in this Electoral Area (Gabriola, Mudge, DeCourcy) for 30 days, and a BC resident for six months prior to registering.

What To Bring

If you arrive on voting day to vote and you are not on the list of electors, you may register by completing an application form available at the voting place. Registration is available at all voting places on general voting day, Oct. 20, and at early voting days, Wednesday Oct. 10 and Oct. 17.

 Resident electors must provide the following items:

  • Two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity;
  • OR If you do not have a document that proves your residence, you may provide two documents for identity, and make a solemn declaration to confirm residency – declaration forms will be available at the voting place.

 Non-resident property electors must also provide the following items:

 Two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity;

  • Proof of ownership of the property in the voting area, such as your tax notice, or a certificate of title print-out; and
  • If there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners. Note: Only one non-resident property elector is entitled to vote per property.
